Ancilliary to our food rescue is the impact we make on the environment. Through our work landfill emissions are minimized through a reduction in waste – benefiting all citizens with a healthier environment.

Job Description:        Coordinator, Christchurch

Overview: Reporting to the General Manager, FBC the Coordinator, Christchurch will be integral to FBC’s future success as we expand our service to the communities of Canterbury.

Type of Employment: Fixed Term, 30 hours position. Hours as specified in the Employment Agreement.

 

Specific Duties include but not limited to:

Assist the General Manager, FBC Canterbury in

  • Leading the Christchurch-based team to help alleviate food poverty and reduce food waste

  • Leading relevant staff, volunteers and general day-to-day operations

  • Efficiently maintain and improve FBC operations and volunteer coordination

  • Establish, maintain and foster relationships with a wide range of collaborators, stakeholders (food donors, food recipients, volunteers, supporters) other strategic relationships as required

  • Maintain and enforce stringent Food Safety measures

  • Maintain excellent communication links within the Canterbury operation

 

Skills and Education Requirements:

  • Excellent self-management and organisational skills, with a proven ability to multi-task and cope well with a variety of tasks.

  • A quick learner who is able to work independently and on their own much of the time, using initiative to solve problems as they arise.

  • Experienced in managing a small team and the ability to work cooperatively with other staff, volunteers and the Board of Trustees to grow FBC

  • Innovative and able to proactively generate creative solutions to improve FBC’s operations and management where needed.

  • Enthusiastic about FBC its vision and commitment to food rescue, social justice, and environmental sustainability.

 

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

  • Strong leadership skills through empowering and managing staff and volunteers.

  • A passion for the FBC mission.

  • A proven track record and the equivalent of at least 2 years’ experience in a similar operation, general management or entrepreneurial role.

  • Clean and unrestricted Full Current NZ Driver’s Licence for a minimum of 5 years.

  • Ability to lift 20 kgs.

  • Strong connections with the community sector / able to develop these.

  • Good people skills to be able to liaise with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Excellent English communication and networking skills, and the ability to represent City Harvest in a professional manner.

  • Experienced and skilled in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, e-mail, and comfortable with the use of internet and web-based applications.

  • Entitlement to accept full time, permanent employment in New Zealand.
